Mysuru: The countdown for the world-famous Mysuru Dasara 2022 has begun. It’s not an easy task for the gentle giants to prepare for the pageantry. They need to get accustomed to the sounds, sights and smells of the various venues every year. They have to be trained to walk, elaborately caparisoned, while carrying huge loads down a designated route at a designated pace.
The Dasara elephants are camping at Mysuru Amba Vilas Palace premises. Besides getting accustomed to carrying the heavy weights, they need to get used to sounds. Mysuru District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar inaugurated the artillery carriage after the usual puja.
Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bagadi Gautham and Mysuru Commissioner of Police Dr. Chandragupta and others were present.
Sound acclimatisation exercises will begin in the first week of September. On Vijayadashami day, the police fire 21 rounds of cannon fire. This is the reason behind cannon firing drill.
Usually, seven cannons are used to fire 21 rounds and the practice is held for three days for the finale where the 21-gun-salute is accorded soon after the inauguration of the ‘Jamboo Savari’ on Vijayadashami Day.
