Mysuru: Debt burden, woman kills self

Mysuru: Fearing debt burden, a farmer woman resorted to suicide by jumping into a lake at Veeranahosahalli Village in the District.

The deceased has been identified as Lakshmamma (65), wife of Lakkegowda of Veeranahosalli in Doddahejjur Gram Panchayat limits of Hanagodu Hobli in the Taluk. She is survived by her husband, a son and a daughter.

She had gone out of the house on Monday November 14 saying that he would go to a relative’s house and his body was found in a lake near Periyapattana Town on Tuesday November 15.

The deceased had grown maize, ragi and ginger crops on her land. She had taken a loan of Rs. 7 lakh from Kaveri Grameena Bank in Hanagod in the name of her husband LakkeGowda. She had also taken a loan of Rs. 12 lakh, including Rs. 5 lakh from a private moneylender firm and women’s associations in the Village.

Shivu, son of the deceased, has lodged a complaint at Periyapattana Police Station alleging that she resorted to suicide as she was unable to repay the loan incurred due to crop losses. MDCC Bank Chairman G. D. Harish Gowda visited the spot and consoled the family.
