Mysuru: Family members of brain dead man gives life to four

Mysuru: The family members of brain dead man have given life to four patients by donating the organs of the deceased.

The donor has been identified as M. Kumara Nayka (52), a resident of Agrahara here. The family of the man donated his organs and gave life to four people even in death. He was in a coma due to an accident a week ago.

Kumara Nayka, who met with an accident admitted to Apollo BGS Hospital, in critical condition on December 2. An initial CT scan showed a brainstem infection. He was shifted to ICU with life support for intensive care. Kumar Nayka’s health was in a very critical condition and he was kept in ICU support for two days. On the third day, December 5, the doctor declared him brain dead as per the hospital protocol of the Human Organ Transplantation Act, 1994.

Then, Kumar Nayka’s family came forward for organ donation. On Tuesday around 8.45 pm, Kumar’s organs were transplanted at Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysuru and cross-clamped at the hospital where the organ was donated. Heart valves were sent to HAL Manipal Hospital, Bangalore, liver to Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysuru, and corneas to JSS Hospital, Mysuru.
