Mysuru: The Hullahalli Police has arrested five persons including the deceased’s husband in connection with the death of a housewife due to dowry harassment at Hullahalli in Nanjanagudu Taluk in the District.

Mamata (20) had resorted to suicide by hanging herself 22 days ago. The parents had alleged that the death of their daughter was due to harassment at her husband’s house.

Mamata’s marriage to Premachandra Nayaka took place in May 2021. At the time of the wedding, 30 grams of gold and Rs. 80,000 in cash were given as dowry.

Later in the day, Premachandra had physically assaulted Mamata over dowry issues, it is alleged. There was also the support of the family. When she was pregnant, she was forced to abort the baby too.

Police has registered a case of murder against Premachandra Nayaka, Yashoda, Chinna, Shankar Nayaka and Anuja after Mamata’s mother Bhagya lodged a complaint. Mamata’s husband Premachandra Nayaka has gone missing soon after her death.
