Mysuru: The Mayor and Deputy Mayoral posts of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has been reserved for the General Category and for women from the Backward Category (BC-A), respectively.

The categories of reservation were notified on Wednesday August 24 by T. Manjunath, Undersecretary to Government, Urban Development Department, Bengaluru.

This comes as a relief to the residents of Mysuru City as several infrastructure works in the City have come to a standstill. The City was without a Mayor and Deputy Mayor for nearly six months primarily due to the lackadaisical approach by the State Government.

As soon as the categories of reservation were announced, the lobbying for the coveted Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s posts has begun. The eligible corporators of MCC, both men and women, are trying to influence their
party leaders for the Mayoral posts.

For the election of Mayoral posts, Bharatiya Janata Party has 26 eligible voters comprising 23 corporators, two MLAs and one Member of Parliament, while Congress has 21 corporators, one MLA and one MLC; the JDS has 17 corporators, one MLA and two MLCs; and the Bahujan Samaj Party has one corporator. There are four independent corporators.

The election to the new Mayoral posts is likely to be held soon in view of the Mysuru Dasara festivities in the coming days.
