Mysuru: JD (S) State President C. M. Ibrahim has said that it was wrong on the part of the State Government to implement Tipu Jayanti celebrations when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister.
Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday November 16, he said, “It was wrong to celebrate Tipu Jayanti. We don’t have jayanti celebrations. I had objected to celebrate Tipu Jayanti. He criticised Tipu Jayanti being celebrated because of vote bank.
Ibrahim also opposed Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait’s statement that he would build a 100-feet statue of Tipu Sultan either in Mysuru or Srirangapattana. We don’t have a provision for a statue. We don’t have to do puja, and apply kumkuma. All we have to do is help the poor. This is the ritual we have. There is no question of making Tipu’s statue. Show me if there is a statue of Muslim men anywhere,” he said.
