Mysuru: The 17th annual Mahaabhishekam was performed to the Nandi idol at Chamundi Hill one Sunday November 13 as part of Karthika Masam.

In the puja mahotsava organised by Bettada Balaga Charitable Trust in the early hours of Sunday, the idol was anointed with Vedic hymns with 38 different kinds of items including dishes, madhuparka, dates, turmeric, kumkum, milk, ghee and honey. This time the event was held in a simple manner as the hill road adjacent to the Nandi statue is being repaired.

Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Sutturu Matha and Sri Chidananda Swamiji of Hosamatha inaugurated the Nandi Mahamajjana.

The idol of Black Shila Nandi turned white as it was anointed with milk, curd and bhasma, while the idol turned yellow during the abhishekam of turmeric and sandalwood. People were happy to see that the idol had turned red while kumkum abhishekam was held.
