Mysuru: Police recovered Rs 15K, weapons from Central Jail

Mysuru: The City Police raided the Central Jail in Mysuru on Thursday February 9 and seized mobile phones, money, marijuana, knives, scissors and other items from the inmates. City Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth, DCPs M. Muthuraju, and S. Jahnavi formed a team of ACP, inspectors, and sub-inspectors including, a narcotics detection dog squad and conducted a snap raid. During the raid, the officials recovered Rs. 15,000 cash, 5 mobile phones, 20 grams of ganja, and weapons made of knives, scissors and spoons from the prisoners who were serving punishment for their crimes. Also, appropriate legal action has been taken against the accused. During the raid, the Chief Superintendent of the jail, K.C. Divyashree and other officers were present.

Speaking to mediaperons after the raid, City Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth said that there are rumours that marijuana and other items are being thrown inside the prison premises from the graveyard behind the Mysuru Central Jail. This is being thoroughly investigated. He said that an investigation has also been carried out into whether the prison staff was involved in this case.

He said the Police conducted a special operation on Wednesday February 8 after receiving complaints from the public that transgender persons are forcibly extorting money from the public under the pretext of begging in the main circles, signal and junctions of the city. 22 persons were arrested and brought to the police station and appropriate legal action was taken.

Commissioner Ramesh Banoth said that this type of operation will be conducted in the coming days as well.
