Mysuru: Protest held in front of Minister for house title deeds

Mysuru: Residents of Ekalavya Nagar here staged a flash protest in front of District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar while the Rajyotsava procession was being held on Tuesday November 1.

The residents expressed anger against S. T. Somashekhar and the District Administration since they did not solve their problems.

Officials and police were shocked by the sudden protest of more than 50 people including children and women, who rushed to Chamaraja Circle on Tuesday under the leadership of Dalita Sangharsha Samiti.

DSS District Coordinator Choranahalli Sivanna said, ‘that though we have been holding dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner’s Office since last 50 days District Minister did not visit them. He alleged that even if they go to appeal, minister escapes and runs away.

He alleged that poor residents of Ekalavya extension have no title deeds of their houses. Despite that they constructed houses and now facing problems owing to ownership of houses. He said that they took out torch light procession urging Government to distribute title deeds but even after Dussehra, our voice has not been listened to.

“12 years ago, the Slum Eradication Board promised to build a house under the ‘JNURM ‘ scheme and shifted to Gomala land in Shyadanahalli. Later the District Administration has declared it as Eklavya Nagara. However, we have no title deed,” a resident Lakshmi alleged.

The police took custody of more than 50 protesters and left at DAR parade ground.

Reacting to the flash protest Minister S. T. Somashekar said that he is not aware why the residents are staging protest. He said the new Deputy Commissioner would solve their problems.
