Mysuru: The Save ‘Maharani NTM School agitation union members staged a protest on Tuesday August 16 demanding that Maharani NTM School should be constructed along with Vivekananda Memorial.

The union members raised slogans against the Government and Ramakrishna Ashram which planned to construct Vivekananda memorial by availing plot from the State Government.

Addressing the gathering, BSP State Secretary Purushottam said, “It is an insult to Vivekananda to demolish the girls’ school built by Vanivilasa Sannidhana and construct the Vivekananda Memorial. He also said Swami Vivekananda would have never agreed with the monument on the school’s grave if he was alive.”

Ramakrishna Ashram agreed to the proposal to build a school along with the memorial in the negotiation meeting held in the presence of Sutturu Swamiji, and MP V. Srinivasa Prasad. But suddenly the school was demolished. He expressed outrage that it is unfair that the Ashram has performed Bhumi Puja.

“The Ashram, which has violated the agreement, is also doing a disservice to those who fought for the survival of the school, he alleged. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that he would fulfill the demand. Now they are also following the instructions of the ashram. He warned that the struggle will not stop until the school is built. Trusting the words of the ashram, the union did not appeal to the Supreme Court. No one, including D. Made Gowda, who participated in the negotiation meeting, is speaking now. He questioned whether the people of the ashram have taken away the freedom of expression.
