Mysuru: Yuva Bharat Sangathan organised a programme to remember the martyred soldiers and honour the retired soldiers as part of the 23rd ‘Kargil Vijay Divas’ at Field Marshal K M Cariappa Circle on Monday July 25.
Six retired brave warriors were felicitated on the occasion. The ex-servicemen M. V. Kumar, Virupakshappa, K. V. Mahesh, K. P. Mahesh, Kantharaju B. and Manju C., who had served in the Indian Army for more than 20 years were felicitated.
Speaking on the occasion, Chamaraja Constituency MLA L. Nagendra said that in order to control the highway connecting Kashmir to India, Pakistani soldiers and militants invaded the Siachen border and occupied some portion of the land belonging to India. War began on the orders of the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and on that day, our brave soldiers won the war and made every Indian proud. The ‘Kargil War’ that occurred 23 years ago is an inspiration for today’s youth. Soldiers are working day and night to protect and defend our borders. In order to console the families of the soldiers who died in the war and to pay respect to them, we must boycott all Chinese products.”
Senior Social Worker Dr. K. Raghuram Vajapayee said that “thousands of brave warriors lost their lives and saved Kashmir in the war instigated by Pakistan with a plot to conquer the entire Kashmir. The then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Defence Minister George Fernandes encouraged the Indian Army.”
