Mysuru: Strongly opposing ropeway to Chamundi hills, Former Mayor of city B. L. Bhyrappa on Sunday March 13 staged a lone protest at the foothill.
Venting his anguish at those in favour of the proposal, Bhyrappa told mediapersons, “Don’t spoil the natural environs at Chamundi Hill in the name of tourism development and don’t disturb the green cover. The roads atop the hill is already collapsing at some parts and do not ignore the danger in future.”
Chamundi Hill is regarded as the crown of Mysuru and has an integral role to play in tourism development in many ways. Hence there is no need for the ropeway to attract tourists. Better preference must be given for connecting roads only.
Geographically and historically Chamundi Hill is very important. If the ropeway project gets through, the earth will be dug for more than 10 feet in many parts of the hill. Hundreds of trees will have to be axed that leads to danger, warned Bhyrappa.
