Mysuru: It is possible to spread human values through short movies, said Assistant Director of the Information and Broadcasting Department of the Government of India, Dr. T. C. Poornima.

Speaking after inaugurating Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham’s ‘Cinerama-2022,’ a national-level short films competition on Friday April 8 she said “Short films are gaining popularity. It is a significant development over the years.” She said, “This could be due to demonetisation or the pandemic situation. It is this situation that is boosting the production of short movies in the country. A short movie is the first step. If you
succeed, you can think of producing bigger movies. In 2000s, around 1,000 small movies were produced. In the last 10 years, around 8,000 short movies have been produced. India boasts of producing 15,500 short movies in the last 10 years.”

Poornima said, “Short movies are like fast food. These days, people have no time and patience. Short movies can be produced at a low budget and have been successful in reaching out to the audience. Money doesn’t matter here and it is the content that matters most. As a society, we are interested in human values. And, short movies have been successful in spreading the message.”

Sahitya Academy Award winner writer N. Damodar Shetty said, “Movie-making has undergone a sea change in the last decade or so. Value-based movies are welcome.”

Padma Shri Award winner Girish Kasaravalli, music composer Pavan K. J., College Principal Dr. G. Ravindranath, correspondent Muktidamrutha Chaitanya, Dr. Maulya Baladi and others were present.
