Mysuru: After Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal issued a final order, the state government has decided not to release water to Tamil Nadu in this current year. This decision was informed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here on Sunday.
The tribunal issued the final order due to failure in the monsoon and lack of rain.
Speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah said that it would challenge the recent petition by Tamil Nadu government filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Cauvery water issue.
When asked about TN’s demand for 45.327 tmcft of Cauvery water to save standing crop in the Cauvery delta region, CM said that Karnataka has released water to TN as per the distress formula even when there was no water to meet the drinking water demand in the state.
TN had approached the SC recently seeking directions to Karnataka to release water to save its crop in the delta districts.
