Mysuru: Moderate rains lashed parts of Mysuru city and surrounding areas on Thursday evening, bringing relief to residents after several days of scorching heat.
The rain began at around 5 pm and continued for nearly two hours, accompanied by occasional thunder. The sudden spell brought down the intensity of the heat and provided much-needed respite to people who had been experiencing unusually warm weather in the city.
Rain disrupts evening commute
The showers inconvenienced people returning home from work, with rain affecting evening movement in parts of the city. The occasional thunder added to the intensity of the weather during the spell.
Despite the inconvenience caused to commuters, the rain was largely welcomed by residents who had been experiencing high temperatures over the past few days.
Mysuru had been witnessing conditions more typical of summer, with temperatures touching around 34 degrees Celsius. The persistent heat had made weather conditions uncomfortable, particularly during the daytime.
Sudden showers bring relief
The rainfall came as a welcome change from the prevailing hot conditions. Residents experienced a noticeable respite as the showers cooled the surroundings after several days of elevated temperatures.
The spell was also significant as Mysuru and surrounding areas generally receive moderate rainfall around the Gowri-Ganesha festival period.
This year, however, the rain arrived about two days before the festival, providing relief from the heat ahead of the celebrations.
The weather change has also raised hopes among residents for more rainfall in the coming days, particularly as the region has experienced a relatively hot spell.
