Mysuru: The Rajput community members under the aegis of Rajput Kshatriya Samaj took out a massive jatha in the city demanding a ban on the release of “Padmavati” alleging that the makers had distorted historical facts.

Hundreds assembled in front of Kote Anjaneya swamy temple near the place and then marched through Devaraj Urs Road to submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. During the jatha, they raised their demand of staying the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Bollywood film “Padmavati.”

The community feels the makers have “distorted the historical facts in the movie.”

“We have learnt that there is a dream sequence in the movie wherein ‘Rani Padmavati’ has been shown romancing ’Allaudin Khilji’. We condemn such a heinous portrayal of our queen,” they said.

Wife of Rajput King Ratan Singh of Chittorgarh, queen Padmavati is associated with the self-esteem of the Rajput community, who valiantly fought against her opponents before attaining “Sati” after the death of her husband, the protestors claimed.

They shouted slogans against director Sanjay Leela Bansali and actress Deepika Padukone and accused both of trading themselves for money.
