Siddaramaiah criticizes Mysore legislators for MUDA mismanagement

In a recent review meeting on the development of Mysore district, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed frustration with the city’s legislators, including those from BJP, JDS, and Congress, for their role in the ongoing issues within the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Addressing the group, he questioned, “You’ve all been members of MUDA for 20 years. Why did you let this chaos happen?” His comments came in response to concerns from MLAs about poor management, lack of basic amenities, and inadequate water and sewage systems in private settlements.

Siddaramaiah held the legislators responsible for the mismanagement, which has led to widespread dissatisfaction among residents. The meeting revealed that nearly 950 newly developed layouts in Mysuru had not been handed over to urban local bodies, despite developers’ responsibility to provide essential infrastructure.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to convene a separate meeting to address MUDA’s future management and announced plans to meet Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on January 15 to expedite the expansion of Mysore’s airport, which has been a major hurdle for regional development. He also decided to send a letter to the central ministry regarding the delays in the project.

Further developmental initiatives discussed included the completion of land acquisition for the airport expansion, with 111 acres already secured and 46 acres pending. Siddaramaiah directed officials to accelerate the demolition of dilapidated buildings, such as Lansdowne and Devaraj Urs markets, to begin reconstruction.

A Rs 25 crore proposal was presented to protect Dalwai Lake from sewage contamination, while a Rs 670 crore project for sewerage and sewage treatment in Mysuru and surrounding areas was proposed. Additional projects include a new Taluk Hospital, a Mother and Child Hospital in Saligrama, road upgrades within a 46 km radius, and the establishment of an IT park in Kochanahalli. A Rs 13 crore project to convert the old District Collector’s Office into a museum was also approved.
