Mysuru: If the state government goes ahead with Tippu’s birth anniversary celebrations on November 10, we will protest against the same in Bengaluru and Mysuru,” warned researcher M Chidanandamurthy and Sri Ram Sene convenor Pramod Muthalik in a joint press meet here on Tuesday.

Pramod Muthalik during the press meet said, “The state government should not play vote-bank politics by celebrating Tippu Jayanthi. One life was lost last year during the celebrations hence the government should drop the idea of celebrating it this November. If the state government fails, we will hold aggressive protests across the state. According to many of the historical references, several Hindus were killed and temples were destroyed during Tippu’s regime. He was also against Kannadigas, hence we condemn celebrating his birth anniversary, ” Muthalik added.

M Chidananda Murthy said, “I respect all the religions and I do not want to be lebelled with a particular section or an organisation. The state government should not celebrate Tippu Jayanthi only to impress one particular community. I will meet chief minister Siddaramaiah and minister Umashree in this regard and urge thyem not to celetrate Tippu Jayanthi. failing which I will write a letter to them urging them to drop the celebrations,” he added.
