Mysuru: The temporary employees of Mysore Race Club are paid a meagre salary. Even after dedicating their service for more than ten years most of the temporary employees here are getting just Rs 6500.
On August 23, Hanuman Prasad, Chairman of Mysore Race Club who mentioned that due to GST, their commission had been cut down by 50 percent and hence the number of races and schedules had come down this season. But the condition of temporary employees of the club who also play an important role for smooth conduct of the races, is pathetic due to meagre salary which is a clear cut violation of Labour Act.
There are more than 40 such employees here. The temporary workforce also includes handlers and course workers. There are also few employees who have been working since more than 15 years and are paid just Rs 6500 to Rs 6800. After losing the hope of getting the requisite hike, recently they had also approached the higher authorities in the club for enhancement of the salary but nothing has been done. Most of these temporary employees live in poor conditions and have families to support.
Speaking on anonymity, one of the workers said, “It’s really very difficult to lead the family with the salary that we get here. We are infact, fed up of the authorities. We are working here thinking that our jobs will get regularised and may get better salary. But even after eight to ten years of our service they have not made us permanent or provided better salary.”
When this was brought to the notice of Hanuman Prasad, Chairman and K G Anantharaj Urs, Secretary, surprisingly they claimed that all temporary employees were paid more than Rs 10,000 per month and not Rs 6500 as mentioned by them. “Including temporary employees, no one is paid less than Rs 10,000”, added Hanuman and Anantharaj Urs.
