Mysuru: ‘Business of business is business. Every company needs to justify the triple bottom line such as economy, environment, and society. People, planet and profit are postulated as the central aspects of sustainability. the future corporate managers need to possess the core skills such as complex problem solving, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, creativity, judgment and decision making, people management and coordination with stakeholders to implement sustainable business practices’ thus said the Chief Guest and Keynote speaker Dr. Sébastien, Director of La Rochelle Business School (France) and Vice Dean-Academics of Excelia Group, during the inauguration of the 5th International Conference on the theme of Economic Growth and Sustainable Development: Emerging Trends at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD), Mysore. The two-day conference is organized on November 15 and 16, 2019, at SDMIMD.

Dr. Sebastien raises concerns about the increasing pressure on the environment and opines that sustainable development goals (SDGs) could be achieved through responsible management education. He argues for the need for industry-academia collaboration to instill sustainability practices. Further, he expressed concern over ethical dilemmas and sustainability practices in business.

Earlier, Dr. H. Gayathri, Deputy Director & Professor – Marketing, SDMIMD, delivered the welcome address. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gayathri stressed on the discussion and focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nation which is built on the principle of “leaving no one behind” focusing on the holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all. Expressing concern on the impact of the environment by economic growth & developments said India should focus on ‘Development & Environment’ with prosperity for all approaches.

Dr. B. Venkatraja, Conference Chair and Assistant Professor – Economics, SDMIMD, introduced the conference theme and said the conference has been organized to deliberate on the factors driving growth and causing a slowdown in the economies in the emerging global open market. Further to review the sustainability frameworks adopted in different contexts by the national economies and the firms.

The conference has technical sessions, invited talks, panel discussions and paper presentations on different issues pertaining to the conference theme. Ms. Anjana K R, General Manager – HR, Tata Consultancy Services, Dr. M. Indira, Professor of Economics, University of Mysore, and Sri. Bharathram Lokkur, Director, Lokkur Investment Advisors Private Limited, will be delivering a talk during technical sessions. The panel discussion on the conference theme will have Dr. Gavin Melles, Professor of Sustainability, Swinburne University, Australia, Dr. Rajagopal R, Founder & CEO, KnowGenix, Mumbai and Jyotsna Belliappa, Head- CSR Assurance at BlueSky as panel members. The panel is moderated by Dr. M.R. Suresh, Professor, SDMIMD, Mysore.

Members from academia, industry and research scholars from different parts of the country and abroad are presenting more than 140 research papers or case studies on the conference theme.

Sri. K.R. Viju Parameshwar, Former President & CEO of Kluber Lubrication India Private Limited is the Chief Guest to the valedictory session of the conference that will be held at 4.15 pm tomorrow November 16, 2019.
