Mangaluru: On July 1, the Department of Forensic Science at the Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Srinivas University, and the Department of Forensic Medicine at Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Mukka, in collaboration with the PG Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Mangaluru, organized a one-day national conference themed ‘Addiction Forensics – The Drug Investigation’ at Mukka campus.

Over 220 delegates from various colleges across the country participated. Manoj Kumar Naik, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru North sub-division, highlighted the vulnerability of youth to substance abuse and urged students to support law enforcement in combating drug addiction. A. Raghavendra Rao, Chancellor, emphasized the widespread impact of drug abuse on individuals and families.

During the conference, an e-souvenir was released, and an MoU was signed between Srinivas University and Code F Solutions Pvt Ltd., a private investigation agency from Nagpur. V. Premanand, Associate Professor at St Agnes Centre for PG Studies and Research, discussed the psychological aspects of drug abuse, including symptoms and behaviors of addicts. Dr. Parinita Sanjeev Nayaka, Assistant Professor at AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, detailed the investigation process by observing physical signs such as wounds and tattoos.

Veena P., Senior Scientific Officer at the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, provided insights into crime scene investigation related to drug abuse and explained various types of drugs. Maheshchandra Nayak, Associate Professor at SDM Law College, spoke about the NDPS Act, its legal framework, challenges, preventive measures, and rehabilitation of addicts. Chirag C. Suvarna, a cybersecurity analyst, discussed the dark web’s role in supplying illegal substances and safety measures for accessing it.
