Released globally on June 4, 2026, Peddi has continued its strong run at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and sections of the audience.

According to the makers, the film has collected more than Rs 366 crore worldwide in just nine days, making it the highest-grossing South Indian film released in 2026 so far.

The sports drama entered its second weekend with strong momentum and witnessed impressive audience turnout across several markets. The film’s commercial performance has significantly exceeded industry expectations and strengthened Ram Charan’s position at the box office.

Major comeback for Ram Charan

Peddi marks Ram Charan’s first major box office success since the global blockbuster RRR.

Following the success of RRR, the actor’s subsequent releases, including Acharya and Game Changer, failed to meet commercial expectations despite generating significant pre-release buzz.

Game Changer, in particular, attracted attention due to its reported high production costs. Industry reports suggested that a single song sequence in the film was produced at a cost of nearly Rs 75 crore.

With Peddi delivering strong collections worldwide, the film has provided Ram Charan with a much-needed commercial triumph and reaffirmed his star power among audiences.

Controversy over Janhvi Kapoor’s character

Despite its box office success, Peddi has faced criticism over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyyamma.

Several viewers expressed concerns regarding certain romantic scenes and what they described as the hypersexualisation of the character. The criticism gained traction on social media platforms following the film’s release.

Responding to the controversy, director Buchi Babu Sana addressed the issue publicly and acknowledged audience feedback.

“As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously,” the filmmaker said in a statement shared on social media.

He further emphasised his respect for women and stated that the feedback was being carefully considered.

Story and cast details

Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi follows the journey of a young man navigating intense sporting challenges while dealing with rivalry, personal ambition and societal expectations.

Apart from Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film features prominent performances from Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma and Jagapathi Babu.

Ram Charan reportedly underwent a significant physical transformation for the role, which became one of the talking points during the film’s promotional campaign.

The film had special premiere screenings worldwide on June 3 before its global theatrical release the following day.

Strong technical team behind the film

Peddi has been produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the banner of Vriddhi Cinemas in association with Mythri Movie Makers and IVY Entertainment.

The film’s music has been composed by acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman, while cinematography has been handled by R. Rathnavelu.

Jio Studios managed the film’s distribution across North India, helping the movie secure a wide theatrical release.

Looking ahead

With collections continuing to grow during its second weekend, Peddi is expected to add significantly to its worldwide earnings in the coming days.

The film’s strong commercial performance demonstrates the continued appeal of large-scale Telugu cinema and positions Peddi among the biggest Indian film successes of 2026.

For Ram Charan, the achievement represents a significant milestone, marking a successful return to the box office after a series of underperforming releases and reinforcing his status as one of South India’s leading stars.
