A tragic incident in Dindori district, Madhya Pradesh, has shocked the community after a pregnant woman was reportedly compelled to clean her husband’s blood-stained bed following his death from injuries sustained during a brutal attack. The attack, stemming from a long-standing land dispute, occurred in the usually peaceful village of Lalpur Sani on Thursday evening, claiming the lives of three family members: Dharam Singh Marawi, 65, and his two sons, Raghuraj and Shivraj Marawi, both 40.
Shivraj succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Gardasari health centre. A disturbing video surfaced showing Shivraj’s wife, Roshni, who is five months pregnant, being made to clean the bloodied bed immediately after her husband’s death. In response to the video’s circulation, hospital staff received a show-cause notice, although Dr. Chandrashekhar Tekam claimed that Roshni was collecting evidence and was not specifically instructed to clean.
The violent altercation began around 4:30 PM when the Marawi family confronted their relatives harvesting paddy on a disputed field, which had been awarded to them through a court ruling in 2018. Armed with sticks, rods, axes, and sickles, the mob of 20-25 assailants brutally attacked the victims, who were beaten and pursued for nearly an hour. Ramraj Marawi, the only surviving family member, sustained serious injuries but managed to escape and seek help.
Local police have arrested four suspects identified as Ghanshyam Marawi, Kanwal Singh Marawi, Patiram Marawi, and Kartik Marawi, all relatives of the victims. Three others—Son Singh, Sarwan, and Jahar Singh—are currently at large. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder. The condition of the third son remains critical as he receives medical treatment at the district hospital.
