Raichur: A large crocodile that had entered the lake at D Rampur village from the River Krishna was captured by local youth on Thursday and handed over to the forest department. The crocodile had reportedly been preying on sheep and pigs that came to drink from the lake, raising concerns about potential attacks on humans.
Despite villagers’ requests for action from the Raichur forest division, officials did not respond. In a proactive move, the youth devised a plan to capture the reptile, warning residents to keep away from the lake for two days. On Thursday, they successfully caught the crocodile using a fishing net.
Forest department staff later arrived to take the crocodile into custody, subsequently releasing it back into the River Krishna, a short distance from the village. However, residents reported the presence of two more crocodiles in the lake and have urged officials to capture and relocate them to ensure the safety of both people and livestock.
