The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, until May 6. The inclement weather is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which is gradually advancing towards Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Cities and districts including Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Hassan, Tumkur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Bellary, and Chikkamagaluru are expected to witness showers and gusty winds during this period. The seven-day forecast also mentions light rain and thundershowers in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada on May 1.
In Bengaluru city, residents can expect partly cloudy skies, light rainfall, and occasional thundershowers accompanied by winds until May 2. The temperature in the state capital is predicted to range between 23°C (min) and 34°C (max).
Other regions such as Belagavi, Dharwad, and Bidar are also likely to experience light to moderate rain through the coming week.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a broader climatic advisory for May, highlighting the potential for above-normal temperatures and increased heatwave occurrences across India. While northern India may receive more-than-average rainfall, regions in the northwest, central, and northeast could face dry and warmer conditions.
According to IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra, April 2025 recorded the eighth-highest maximum temperatures and ninth-highest minimum temperatures on record, reinforcing concerns about the escalating summer heat across the country.
