Sullia: The residents of Sullia are expressing growing concern over a troubling issue involving muddy water flowing from the forest area, despite the current dry spell. This unusual phenomenon is occurring along the Sullia-Bandadka road in Kolchar, located within Aaletti village, Sullia taluk.
The muddy water is emerging from a location approximately 150-200 meters from the main road. Traditionally, this area experiences such muddy flows during the rainy season, when water from the forest typically makes its way towards the Payaswini river. However, locals are baffled as to why this occurrence is happening now, given the recent reduction in rainfall. The sudden increase in muddy water has raised questions about the underlying causes.
Local resident Shilavathi, who has witnessed similar occurrences in the past, noted that while such events have happened before, the current situation is more severe. “A couple of years ago, we saw muddy water flow from the forest, but this time it is much more pronounced,” she said. Shilavathi’s observations suggest that there may be a recurring issue that has now escalated, prompting increased worry among the residents.
The village council has been made aware of the issue, and officials have conducted an initial inspection of the affected area. The inspections are aimed at determining the cause of the increased volume of muddy water and assessing any potential environmental or infrastructural impacts. The ongoing investigation is crucial to identifying whether the problem stems from natural factors or if human activities might be contributing to the unusual flow patterns.
The community’s alarm reflects broader concerns about environmental changes and their effects on local water sources. The muddy water not only disrupts daily life but also raises concerns about potential impacts on agriculture, water quality, and overall environmental health in the region. Residents are awaiting further updates from the authorities on the steps that will be taken to address the issue and mitigate any adverse effects.
