A salesman employed at a jewellery store in the city has gone on the run with nearly 9.5kg of gold ornaments, worth approximately Rs 7.5 crore. The suspect, identified as Naresh Sharma from Chennai, has been missing since early January. The police have formed a special team to track him down.

The complaint was filed by Vikram Karia, 44, the owner of Vikram Jewellers in Nagarathpete. Sharma is accused of deceiving Karia and another jeweller, Rabishankara Pal, the owner of Pal Gold. Karia is known for manufacturing gold ornaments, which he sells to various jewellers across Karnataka and neighboring states, including Pal. Sharma had been working as a salesman at Karia’s store for four years and had gained the owner’s trust.

On January 2, Karia entrusted Sharma with 7.5kg of ornaments to be sold, but Sharma left for Coimbatore the same night. He returned on January 5 and claimed he had not sold all of the jewellery. However, by January 8, when Sharma again left the city, he stopped communicating with Karia. The last contact was made on January 10, when Sharma switched off his phone and vanished.

Investigations revealed that Sharma had also visited Pal’s shop on January 3 and collected additional ornaments. Police believe Sharma is now frequently changing his hideouts and may not be in Chennai or Coimbatore.
