Shivamogga Police Seize Rs 5.56 Lakh Worth of Ganja in Recent Operations

Shivamogga Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar informed that from June 8 until now, 61 cases have been registered to prevent ganja (cannabis) smuggling, and ganja worth 5,56,560 rupees has been seized.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the department is committed to curbing ganja menace in the district. Ganja has been detected in area domination operations. So far 54 cases of ganja consuming have tested positive, he said.

The SP appealed to the public to inform the police if they notice any ganja consumption or sales in their surroundings, or if they see suspicious individuals. He mentioned that in all cases, it has been discovered that ganja is being brought from Bangalore.

Awareness about ganja is being created in college surroundings. Beat meetings are also being conducted. Awareness is being targeted specifically at PU colleges. Students aged 20-25 are falling victim to ganja consumption. It has been found that laborers are consuming it more frequently.

In Hosamane, parents came forward to report their son who was consuming ganja. Action was taken against him. If parents show such concern about their children, action will be taken.

MDMA was also detected in Sagar, and awareness has been raised about it as well.

During the 15-day ganja drive in the district, a total of 61 cases have been detected, including 54 for ganja consumption, 6 for ganja sales, and 1 case of raw ganja sale came to the fore, 79 accused have been identified. A total of 15 kgs of ganja has been detected, valued at Rs 5,56,560, he said.
