Bringing much-needed cheer to adventure seekers, the Karnataka Forest Department has officially lifted the trekking ban at five popular trails, effective May 1. This announcement comes as a major boost for tourists and trekking lovers eager to explore nature’s beauty.

The temporary restrictions had been placed across various routes in the Kudremukh Wildlife Division, including the famed Netravathi Peak, Kudremukh Peak, Narasimha Parvatha, Hidlumane Falls, and Kodachadri. The ban was initially enforced during the dry spell to safeguard trekkers and prevent potential mishaps.

Thanks to the recent widespread rainfall rejuvenating the forest landscapes, the authorities have now deemed it safe to resume trekking activities.

Online booking made compulsory

As per the deputy conservator of forests from Kudremukh Wildlife Division, all tourists planning to trek must make their reservations through an online portal. Walk-in entries will not be entertained.

Reason behind the earlier ban

Summer brings heightened wildfire risks, especially in areas like Malavanthige village inside Kudremukh National Park. Despite repeated advisories, reckless behavior by some visitors forced the forest department to implement strict measures, including banning treks during the peak dry season.

Rainfall brings revival

March showers and consistent rains thereafter have revived forest streams and greenery, drastically lowering the risk of fires. The natural beauty is back in full bloom, just in time for summer vacations.

Guidelines to remember

  • Unauthorized activities will invite strict penalties.

  • Trekking is only allowed from morning to evening.

  • Overnight camping is strictly prohibited.

  • Cleanliness and forest regulations must be strictly followed.

  • Only pre-approved routes are accessible for trekking.
