BENGALURU: A tragic accident near Kuluvanahalli Gate on Tumakuru Road (NH 4) on Sunday evening resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including a pedestrian and two labourers.
The deceased have been identified as Shivagangaiah, 55, a pedestrian from Seethakal in Tumakuru district, and Husenappa, 34, and Narasappa, 35, both labourers from Yadgir. Another labourer, Bangarappa, is in critical condition at a nearby hospital. Sabanna and Kattappa, also labourers, sustained injuries but are reported to be out of danger.
The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. when two mini trucks collided. One truck, carrying a cement mixer and nine labourers from a construction site, was heading towards Shivagange in Dabaspete. The other mini truck was traveling towards Bengaluru from Tumakuru. According to Superintendent of Police CK Baba, the collision happened when the truck headed for Shivagange attempted a left turn at a T-junction and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
Shivagangaiah, who was crossing the road, was struck by the truck transporting the labourers. Two labourers died at the scene, and Shivagangaiah succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The drivers of both mini-trucks, who also sustained minor injuries, have been secured by the police.
Traffic on the highway was disrupted for approximately one and a half hours. The Nelamangala traffic police reported that among the nine adults traveling in the mini truck, there were three children and two women, who suffered only minor bruises. The trucks have been seized, and an investigation is underway.
