The Udupi Bar Association auditorium hosted a symposium focused on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam laws. Dr. Nirmala Kumari, director of Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. She underscored the vital role of law in upholding justice, likening it to pillars supporting peace, knowledge, health, and justice in society.

M Shantharam Shetty, a senior advocate and the keynote speaker, provided insights into the implications of these new laws. He urged lawyers to initiate cases under the new legislation before its enforcement, highlighting the requirement to hear the accused before legal proceedings commence.

Shetty also critiqued aspects of the legislation, particularly the provision allowing police 14 days to register cases, expressing concerns about potential repercussions on public safety and fundamental rights. He discussed specific amendments, including the legalization of handcuffs and the introduction of community service for theft-related offenses.

The symposium, attended by legal professionals and students, featured a prayer by advocate Roopashri and was presided over by Sahana Kundar, advocate.
