CID Launches Investigation into Custodial Death, PSI Suspended

Udupi: The CID has launched an investigation into the custodial death of Biju Mohan, a man who died while in custody at the Brahmavar police station. The investigation was initiated on Monday, following an order from Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Arun K.

The deceased was arrested based on a complaint filed by his relative, Aneesh Denil from Kollam, Kerala. The death has raised concerns as the police sub-inspector, Madhu P., and acting station officer, Sujatha, have been suspended for allegedly failing to adhere to the Supreme Court guidelines on arrest procedures.

A team from the CID in Bengaluru is now investigating the incident. In accordance with the National Human Rights Commission’s guidelines, the inquest was conducted by a JMFC magistrate from Udupi. The post-mortem was carried out at KMC Hospital in Manipal. Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family, who transported it back to Kerala, SP Dr. Arun K. confirmed.
