Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K has directed officials to expedite the establishment of a multi-purpose cooperative society for labour services in the district. Speaking at a meeting in Manipal, she emphasized the importance of such a society in benefiting workers, contractors, and outsourced employees by providing access to various economic and statutory benefits.
The proposed society aims to streamline operations for outsourced employees in government departments, corporations, and institutions by ensuring timely salary payments, ESI, and PF contributions. “These measures will ensure smooth operations and resolve potential issues,” the DC noted.
Highlighting successful models already implemented in other districts, she stressed the importance of replicating similar systems locally. She urged officials to finalize preparations, including drafting bylaws, forming a preliminary committee, and setting up an office.
To ensure effective implementation, the district team will study existing cooperative societies to gather insights and adopt best practices.
