Udupi: A fatal road mishap took place near Gampa Cross, Hiriyadka, under the Hiriyadka police station limits, on Monday, April 14, leaving one dead and another critically injured.
The accident involved a head-on collision between a private bus and a pickup vehicle. The pickup, reportedly traveling from Karkala to Udupi, collided with the bus that was headed in the opposite direction.
The impact was devastating—the pickup vehicle was torn into two pieces, highlighting the severity of the crash. A co-passenger in the pickup died instantly, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Police from Hiriyadka station have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and speeding on the Udupi–Karkala route.
