FedEx Scam: Assistant Professor Loses Rs 7.9 Lakh in Karnataka

Fedex Scam Assistant Professor Loses Rs 7.9 Lakh In Karnataka

Udupi, June 22: In a distressing incident, a 33-year-old assistant professor from Udupi fell victim to a FedEx-related scam, resulting in a loss of Rs 7.9 lakh. The case has been registered at Manipal station under IT Act sections 66(C), 66(D) and IPC sections 419, 420, with investigations ongoing.

Namrata, the victim, received a fraudulent call purportedly from a cybercriminal posing as a FedEx employee named Sanjay Kumar. She was falsely informed about a intercepted parcel containing illegal items addressed to her, including Iranian passports, debit cards, clothes, and MDMA drugs.

Under duress, Namrata was coerced into believing an FIR was filed against her in Mumbai and was connected to a fake Mumbai police officer. She was shown a forged FIR and coerced into sharing her Aadhaar and bank details for purported verification. Eventually, she was tricked into transferring Rs 7.9 lakh under the guise of a pre-approved credit card loan for police verification.

After realizing the scam, Namrata promptly reported the incident to the police. Authorities advise thorough verification of callers claiming to be from official agencies, refraining from sharing personal information online or over the phone without verifying identities, and staying vigilant against suspicious activities.
