Udupi: In a significant operation near Vandaru in Brahmavar taluk, the forest department detained three individuals from Bhatkal and Shirur for attempting to hunt wildlife. The arrested suspects are Mohammed Ashraf alias Mavia (23) from Mundalli, Bhatkal, Wasim Akram (34), and Ali Bapu Yasin (36) from Shirur.
The trio was caught carrying illegal hunting tools, including a firearm with 11 live cartridges, four knives, a machete for butchering meat, a flashlight, and three mobile phones. Additionally, an autorickshaw used by the accused was also seized during the operation.
The suspects have been placed under judicial custody as investigations continue. The crackdown was led by Assistant Conservator of Forests G.D. Dinesh, with contributions from Range Forest Officers Jyothi, Sandesh Kumar, and Ganapathi V Naik. The successful operation was carried out by the Agumbe wildlife range team, along with staff from the Siddapura and Shankaranarayana wildlife ranges.
The timely action of the forest department personnel underscores the continued efforts to combat illegal hunting activities in the region.
