Udupi: Former Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat has announced his intention to contest in the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters, the expelled BJP leader, who ran as a rebel candidate in the last elections and lost, emphasized his firm decision to re-enter the political race, though he has yet to finalize his party affiliation.
Bhat expressed openness to rejoining the BJP if invited but noted, “I feel the BJP does not require my services.” He clarified that he has not initiated any discussions about joining the Congress or any other party and added, “No Congress leader has approached me.”
The former MLA revealed that he has registered for primary membership with the BJP but is awaiting approval from local party committees. With ample time before the elections, Bhat hinted at weighing his options carefully for a potential political comeback.
