Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding And Damage In Udupi

Udupi, Jun 27: The recent heavy downpour in Udupi wreaked havoc, leading to widespread flooding and significant damage across the city and surrounding areas on Wednesday, June 26.

The torrential rains resulted in artificial flooding in various localities including Malpe, Manipal, Bailakere, Indrani, Pandubettu, Moodubettu, and Bannanje. Homes were inundated, forcing residents to evacuate. In Bailakere Adamaru Math, firefighters rescued 14 individuals from four houses, relocating them to safety at a private hotel near Shri Krishna Math.

The continuous rainfall overnight caused the Shri Krishna Math parking area and nearby regions to flood, disrupting normal life. High winds accompanying the rain uprooted trees, blocking roads and causing power outages. One such incident occurred in Indrani, where a fallen tree obstructed vehicular traffic.

Residents in Moodanidambur and Bannanje faced severe waterlogging, with reports of flooding in local temples. Frustrated residents highlighted longstanding issues with drainage systems, calling for urgent municipal intervention to prevent recurring flooding during the monsoon season.
