In a remarkable act of generosity, the Home Doctor Foundation has raised Rs 20 lac in just 22 days to fund the treatment of a 15-year-old boy suffering from aplastic anaemia. The funds were handed over to the boy’s family for a crucial bone marrow transplant at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

The boy, who comes from an economically disadvantaged background, faced significant challenges in covering the transplant costs. The treating team, led by Dr. Vasudev Bhat, head of the paediatric haematology and oncology division, reached out to Dr. Shashikiran Shetty of the Home Doctor Foundation for help.

Dr. Shetty and the foundation’s members, with the support of donors, managed to gather the required amount in a short span. A ceremony was held at the women and children’s division auditorium of Kasturba Hospital to mark the fund transfer and extend best wishes to the boy.

During the event, Dr. Shetty highlighted the achievement, stating, “This is the first time we have raised such a large sum. We have previously assisted many with smaller amounts.” He expressed gratitude to all contributors.

Dr. Naveen Salins, associate dean of KMC Manipal, praised the initiative as a model of societal support and urged more organizations to follow suit. Dr. Vasudev Bhat emphasized that Kasturba Hospital is one of the few in Karnataka performing paediatric bone marrow transplants.

The event also recognized the donors’ selfless contributions, with Dr. Shetty receiving accolades from the hospital.
