Udupi: In a strong statement against the Congress-led Karnataka government, BJP MP Kota Srinivas Poojary accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of systematically targeting Hindus and suppressing dissent in the coastal belt. He was addressing a press conference at the BJP district office in Kadiyali.
Poojary claimed the Karavali region is witnessing “unseen and unjustified oppression” under the current regime. “It’s clear this government is selectively punishing Hindus. The actions resemble those of Aurangzeb, known for religious persecution,” he said.
Criticizing the lack of response to sensitive incidents, Poojary pointed to the Mangaluru cooker bomb blast and alleged “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans in the Assembly. “No FIRs were filed then. But when Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat demanded a probe into Suhas Shetty’s murder, an FIR was promptly lodged against him. What justice is this?”
He further alleged that Hindu activists are being expelled, booked under false charges, and harassed using police powers. “In Mangaluru, GPS data was taken during police raids, reportedly under high-level orders. Officers are even questioning citizens about epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, but no such scrutiny exists for other faiths,” he remarked.
Questioning the erosion of fundamental rights, Poojary said, “Are freedom of speech and expression now reserved for a few? This selective crackdown on Hindus is a direct threat to democracy and religious freedom.”
Calling on Home Minister Parameshwara to intervene, he warned of widespread BJP protests if the “one-sided actions” persist.
BJP leaders Srinidhi Hegde, Girish Anchan, Shivakumar Ambalpady, and Dinesh Amin were also present.
