Udupi: Two persons were injured after a lorry carrying iron pipes lost control and overturned at Mala Ghati in the early hours of February 23. A prompt call to the 112 emergency helpline ensured swift response and timely medical assistance to the victims.
According to official information, the accident occurred at around 3.45 am when the lorry, which was transporting iron pipes from Bellary, reportedly went out of control while negotiating a stretch of road at Mala Ghati. The vehicle overturned at the scene, causing injuries to the driver and his assistant.
The injured have been identified as Suhel, the driver of the lorry, and Roshan, his assistant. Both sustained injuries in the mishap and required immediate medical attention.
112 helpline receives distress call
Authorities said that a call was received at the 112 emergency helpline at approximately 3.45 am, alerting them about the accident. The 112 helpline, which functions as an integrated emergency response support system across the State, immediately relayed the information to the nearest Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV).
Responders Srinivas and driver Giridhar Pai of ERV-05 were dispatched to the location without delay. Upon reaching the spot, the team assessed the situation and coordinated with local ambulance services to shift the injured to a hospital.
Officials noted that the timely intervention of the 112 helpline and the quick mobilisation of emergency personnel played a crucial role in preventing further complications.
Injured shifted to Karkala hospital
The injured driver and his assistant were transported in local ambulances to a hospital in Karkala for treatment. Medical sources said both Suhel and Roshan are currently recovering and are reported to be out of danger.
Preliminary information suggests that the accident may have been caused due to loss of control of the vehicle, possibly owing to road conditions or driver fatigue. However, authorities stated that a detailed inquiry will determine the exact cause of the mishap.
