Malpe Beach and Saint Mary’s Island Attract Crowds During Weekend Holiday

Malpe Beach

Malpe: Despite the extended school, college, and government holiday from Saturday to Monday, Malpe Beach and the seawalk witnessed a massive influx of tourists on Sunday, taking advantage of the clear weather following a brief respite from the rains.

Tourists began arriving on Saturday, and by Sunday morning, a steady stream of vehicles headed to the beach. However, many visitors disregarded safety precautions, crossing barricades to enter the water and engage in swimming activities despite the high sea surges common during the rainy season.

In the meantime, the district administration reopened access to Saint Mary’s Island, with island voyaging resuming on Sunday. The island attracted large numbers of visitors, while the seawalk and garden areas were crowded throughout the afternoon.

The weekend holiday, coupled with favourable weather, led to a surge in tourism, drawing visitors to Malpe’s popular attractions. Authorities are being urged to enforce safety measures to prevent accidents and manage the crowds effectively.
