MLA Yashpal Suvarna Announces Krishna Corridor Project to Ease Traffic Congestion

Udupi: MLA Yashpal Suvarna has unveiled plans for the “Krishna Corridor” project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the region. The project, which will extend from Kalsanka to Krishna Math, includes the construction of a ring road around Udupi town and several key traffic diversion routes.

During an interaction at the Udupi Press Club on January 8, Suvarna explained that an alternative road from Beedingudde to CMC and a diversion from Beedingudde to Indrali railway station are also part of the plan. “We aim to address traffic congestion through the Krishna Corridor and the ring road, with proposals to be submitted to the government soon,” he said.

Suvarna also highlighted the need for improved drainage systems in growing areas like Manipal, Malpe, and Kodavoor. He proposed a drainage project costing Rs 600-800 crore. A new parking complex will be constructed at the old KSRTC bus stop, and slum areas will be upgraded with basic amenities.

On water supply, Suvarna noted that the Varahi Dam project is near completion and will provide 24-hour water supply. He assured that roads will be restored after pipeline testing is finished.

Plans are also in place to transform the Mahatma Gandhi Open-Air Theatre into a cricket stadium. Additionally, the development of Manapalla Lake is underway, with plans for walking tracks, cycling paths, and water sports facilities.

Regarding traffic management, Suvarna shared plans to install CCTV cameras and install traffic signals after assessments from police officials.
