Udupi: MLC Manjunath Bhandary has urged Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K to implement necessary safety measures for vehicle riders at Ambalpadi, where a flyover is under construction. In a letter addressed to the DC, Bhandary highlighted concerns over the lack of proper barricades and safety precautions at the site, pointing out that the ongoing construction by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) poses a serious risk to public safety.
The MLC emphasized that the flyover project, located within the jurisdiction of Udupi City Municipality, is taking place without the necessary protective barriers, which has already led to multiple accidents. He noted that despite several incidents near Santhekatte, where the flyover construction has been underway, the authorities did not take preventive actions during the initial phase of the project.
As a result, large pits created during construction have caused vehicles to overturn, leading to public outcry. Bhandary has now called for action against the negligent officials and for the installation of signboards to alert travelers to the hazardous conditions at the construction site.
