Udupi: A motorcycle rider died after sustaining serious injuries when he lost control of his bike while attempting to avoid a dog that suddenly crossed the road at Uppunda on August 20.
The deceased has been identified as Udaneshwara Bhat, a resident of Uppunda village.
According to reports, Bhat was travelling from Ammanavara Thopu towards School Gate in Uppunda when a dog suddenly appeared in front of his motorcycle.
Rider loses control while avoiding dog
Bhat reportedly applied the brakes and attempted to avoid hitting the dog. However, he lost control of the motorcycle, causing him to fall onto the road.
He sustained serious injuries in the accident and was immediately taken to the Byndoor Community Health Centre for treatment.
Considering the severity of his injuries, doctors at the health centre advised that he be shifted to a higher medical facility for further treatment.
Bhat was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Manipal.
Succumbs despite treatment
Despite receiving treatment at the hospital, Bhat succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has caused concern among local residents, particularly over the risks posed by stray animals suddenly entering busy roads. Sudden movements by animals can leave motorists with little time to react and may result in serious accidents, especially when riders brake or swerve abruptly.
Police register case
Following the incident, a case was registered at the Byndoor police station.
Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and are collecting details related to the incident.
The accident serves as a reminder for motorists to exercise caution while travelling through areas where stray animals are frequently present. Maintaining a controlled speed and avoiding sudden manoeuvres can help reduce the risk of losing control of a vehicle when an unexpected obstacle appears on the road.
