A police raid in Manipal has led to the seizure of ganja worth approximately ₹1 lakh and the arrest of the fourth accused in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Acting on credible information, Manipal police apprehended Mohammed Ajmal (26), a native of Malappuram district in Kerala, who had been staying in an apartment in Manipal and was absconding. He was allegedly involved in selling ganja near the Manipal Syndicate Circle.
2 kg ganja recovered in raid
During the operation, police recovered 2,084 grams of ganja from his possession. The seized substance is estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh in the illegal market. Ajmal was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police also detained five persons who were allegedly supplied ganja by the accused. After confirming consumption, separate cases were registered against them at the Manipal Police Station. Further investigation is continuing.
Earlier arrests in the case
The case was first registered on August 16, 2025, under Sections 8(c), 20(b) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act, following a tip-off about ganja being sold from a room near the Narasinga Temple at Eshwar Nagar in Herga village.
In the initial raid, police arrested two accused, Afshin and Shivanidhi Acharya, who were allegedly found in possession of suspected ganja. Another accused, Manish (34), a native of Kasaragod district residing in Udupi, was arrested the following day.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify further links in the case.
