In a shocking incident this afternoon, a stray dog bit and injured eight people in Udupi city. The aggressive dog attacked everyone it encountered on the street, reportedly biting and consuming some flesh from people’s legs. All the injured were treated as outpatients at Udupi district hospital.
Locals noted that the rabid dog was not from the area. The dog eventually collapsed from exhaustion on the grounds of North School in Udupi. Concerned citizens quickly informed Nityananda Olakadu, director of the Udupi District Citizens’ Committee.
Olakadu promptly contacted Udupi municipal commissioner Rayappa and members of the animal welfare association. The municipal commissioner, along with association members Manjula and Prithvi, arrived at the scene to inspect the situation. A veterinarian was called to the site, and the dog was given an injection.
The swift response by the authorities and animal welfare association highlights the community’s commitment to handling such crises effectively and ensuring public safety.
