Rajendra and Prajwal Shenoy’s Journey to Khardung La

Rajendra And Prajwal Shenoy's Journey To Khardung La

Shirva, Udupi – Rajendra Shenoy and his son Prajwal Shenoy accomplished a remarkable feat by unfurling the Karnataka flag at Khardung La in Jammu and Kashmir on June 26.

Khardung La, standing at an elevation of 17,982 feet, ranks among the highest motorable roads globally. The Shenoy duo embarked on their journey from Udupi, traveling initially by train to Delhi and then continuing on their Hero Honda Splendor bike. Their route spanned through Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and finally Jammu and Kashmir, culminating at their destination.

The journey covered approximately 2,100 kilometers over 10 days. Along the way, they paid tribute at the grave of Capt Vikram Batra and other fallen soldiers of the Kargil War.

Prajwal Shenoy recounted the challenges faced, including extreme temperatures ranging from scorching heat in Rajasthan and Punjab to freezing conditions in Jammu and Kashmir’s snow-covered hills. They navigated treacherous, stone-laden roads prone to landslides and steep drops.

Originally aiming for Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 feet, adverse weather and oxygen levels forced them to adjust their plans, returning to Udupi after their inspiring journey.
