Udupi: The Saptotsav celebrations, organized annually by Paryaya Shri Puttige Math, kicked off on January 9 and will continue until January 15. The highlight of the celebrations will be the three chariot festivals on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, followed by the Churnotsav and a daytime chariot procession on January 15.
The festivities commenced with a Teppotsav, which was followed by a vibrant two-chariot procession. This year’s special attractions include a dance and bhajan performance titled ‘Vaibhavotsav’ around Ratha Beedi, along with various competitions at Rajangana, marking the birth centenary of Ahilyabai Holkar. Daily cultural events will also take place at Rajangana.
A significant part of the celebrations will be the participation of notable figures such as John Mulholland, MP from Victoria, Australia, and Shri Pundarik Goswami, a prominent preacher from Mathura Gaudiya Madhwa Math. Both will join the Makar Sankranti festivities and the Three Chariot Festival on January 14.
On January 9, the celebrations featured a musical performance by Sudham Dandeli. Other events include a millet festival at Rajangana on January 11, followed by a Yakshagana performance by Yaksha Nandana. The day will also feature a Gamaka Vyakhyana on Tulasiramayana and a Veena recital by R P Prashanth and R P Pramod.
On January 12, Vaibhavotsava will showcase devotional dances along Rathabeedi, along with competitions and seminars honoring Ahilyabai Holkar. Evening events will include a Panchavadyam performance by Chirakkal Nidheesh and his team, followed by a performance by Vattapalam Hari.
