Udupi: A scooter rider sustained serious injuries after a collision between a car and a scooter near the petrol bunk junction at Eshwar Nagar in Manipal on Saturday.
The injured has been identified as Abhishek, a resident of Garadi in Herga village.
According to police, the accident occurred when the scooter rider was negotiating a turn near the petrol bunk junction and collided with an oncoming car.
Rider suffers severe injuries
Abhishek sustained severe head injuries along with injuries to his hands and legs in the impact of the collision.
Local residents and passers-by immediately rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be serious, and he is undergoing medical care.
The extent of his injuries and further medical details are yet to be officially disclosed.
Car was travelling towards Bajegoli
Police said the car involved in the accident was travelling from Kundapur towards Bajegoli when the collision took place near Eshwar Nagar.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred as the scooter rider was taking a turn near the petrol bunk junction.
The impact of the collision caused significant damage to the scooter and left the rider critically injured.
Police begin investigation
Personnel from the Manipal police station visited the accident spot and gathered information regarding the incident.
A case has been registered at the Manipal Police Station, and further investigations are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
Police are also examining whether factors such as speed, visibility or road conditions contributed to the collision.
